3 proposals approved by UIL concerning student athletes safety

EAST TEXAS (KYTX) - Three amendments were passed Tuesday concerning the safety of student athletes.

According to University Interscholastic League's (UIL) Facebook page, the UIL Legislative Council approved proposals will go into effect August 1, 2013 if approved by the Commissioner of Education.

The following are the three proposals approved by the Council.

1) Limiting football players to no more than 90 minutes of full contact practice per week during the football season.

2) Adding the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Form to the list of required UIL forms for participation.

3) Expanding safety requirements for cheerleading as recommended by the UIL Medical Advisory Committee.
