Longview ISD releases 2013 STAAR results

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - Longview ISD releases preliminary results for its students on the 2013 STAAR test.

Longview schools outperformed the state in geometry -- but lagged behind statewide averages in science -- social studies -- English and algebra one.

District Community Relations Coordinator Adam Holland says LISD is looking for ways to improve its scores -- either through tutorials or extra classwork for its students.

According to the district, the percentage of Longview ISD students to pass the STAAR test were:

In Math, 91 percent of LISD students passed geometry, 77 percent passed Algebra I, and 98 percent passed Algebra II, compared with state averages of 86 percent in geometry, 82 percent in Algebra I, and 97 percent in Algebra II.

In English, 42 percent of LISD students passed English I writing, compared with 54 percent statewide; and 57 percent of LISD students passed English I reading, compared with 70 percent statewide.

In Science, 81 percent of LISD students passed chemistry, and 84 percent passed biology; compared with 84 percent statewide for chemistry, and 88 percent statewide for biology.

In Social Studies, 60 percent of LISD students passed world geography, and 64 percent passed world history; compared with 81 percent statewide for world geography, and 70 percent statewide for world history.
