Two men entered Lester's room while the other two stayed outside as lookouts.

TYLER (KYTX) - It was just before 7:00 a.m. Saturday morning when law enforcement found a man dead in room 218 of the American Inn Motel.

Police said, based on the appearance of the room the man was shot at least once, most likely in the head.

A man named Vince said the motel is more like an apartment complex than a motel. He lives just doors down from where the shooting happened.

"Kinda close makes you kinda scared, make you think about things," he said.

He didn't hear anything strange during the night, he said. However, he knew something was wrong when he saw all the police tape and officers still on scene when he woke up.

Tyler police were on scene several hours after the initial report of the shooting. Vince said he's surprised the shooting happened at the Motel, because most of the time it's fairly quiet.

"Unexpected, very unexpected because it's been quiet over here," Vince Said.

He's been living at the motel for a month, but said he's familiar with the area. he said about four or five years ago, The American Inn Motel was far from quiet.

"I mean it had drugs, hookers and a lot of fighting killing."

He said, the recent shooting is showing a sign of a more violent time that he thought had passed.

"I been thinking myself, Imma have to get up outta here."

The motel manager said, the motel surveillance camera's were working when the incident happened, however, he said he wasn't at liberty to share the video with CBS 19.
