Salvation Army to cut programs

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) - A sign of tough economic times, the Salvation Army in Tyler says it will have to cut some programs to keep running, and help as many people as possible.

Major Ben Lawrence told us today the organization is "simply out of money."

He says they are cutting their noon meal during the week, are very limited on rent and utility assistance, and cut the hours at the center for hope during the day, which also meant cutting a paid employee.

"We never want to say were out of money, we have a shortage in donations that go to people that count on us to help them out in rough times. But unfortunately, we've hit some rough times," says Major Lawrence.

Major Lawrence says many people who would usually donate have funds tied up in supporting people in Oklahoma and other states who were hit with deadly tornadoes.

The noon meal that is being cut will no longer be available Monday.
