UPDATED INFORMATION:

SMITH COUNTY (KYTX) - Two people are in jail after Smith County investigators say they attempted to hit a deputy with a car, led officers on a high speed chase and ran off on foot.

Just after 11 Sunday morning, Whitehouse police responded to a call that a woman was being assaulted in a Red Ford F-150 that was driving on Highway 110 toward Loop 49. According to a press release from the Smith County Sheriff's Office, Sergeant Tobby Hughes heard the chase on the radio and waited for the vehicle on Loop 49.

42-year-old Alan Dale Crouch swerved toward Sgt. Hughes' vehicle, but did not hit him, then took off over 100 MPH. Taking officers from Whitehouse, Bullard, DPS and the sheriff's office on a chase across several roads, driving up the embankment back onto the Loop, and finally crashing just off of County Road 2297.

Investigators say Crouch ran away, but they found 31-year-old Amber Roxanne Johnson in the truck. She was arrested for an outstanding parole violation.

K-9's from the sheriff's office and Whitehouse police were brought in to search for Crouch. The dogs found him hiding in a tree next to the K-9 unit.

Crouch was arrested just after 12pm, and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for attempting to hit the deputies vehicle, and had two other outstanding warrants. He could face other charges.

EARLIER STORY:

Scanner traffic indicated that a man and woman in a red truck were leading Smith County deputies on a car chase just south of Tyler Sunday morning.

The pursuit apparently began around 11am. It was not immediately clear how the chase began. As additional deputies pursued the truck, they relayed radio reports of the truck traveling around Loop 49 near Farm to Market Road 756 and Oscar Burkett Road.

Radio reports indicated that the truck repeatedly drove off the paved surface of the road, and at times drove in the oncoming traffic's lane.

Around 11:20am a deputy reported that the truck had wrecked, and was still running with no one inside it, on Brewer Road just south of Loop 49. Deputies continued searching for the man and woman who had been inside the truck.

We will have additional information as it becomes available.
