UPDATE: (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - Jason White, who is charged with killing his father over the weekend, told authorities he believes his father Steven White was sexually assaulting members of Jason's family.

According to an arrest affidavit, Jason told authorities he shot his father over the weekend after an argument.

SMITH COUNTY (KYTX) - A Smith County family is spending their Father's Day in mourning following the death of 62-year-old Steve White. He was allegedly shot in his driveway by his son late Saturday night, just hours before Father's Day.

Neighbors said the victim was the glue that held the family together. James Jason White was arrested and charged with murdering his father.

"I heard a gunshot and the dogs started going crazy," said Steve Morman one of the victim's neighbors.

He and his wife Traci said they didn't think much of the gunfire because they often shots guns out in the county.

The Morman's have lived next door for 15 years. They're shocked to hear James shot his father.

"He was just a good guy you know if you were outside working he'll come say do you need any help or is there something I could do for you," Mr. Morman.

The Morman's said, the suspects sister told them James was calm as if everything was normal.

The suspects sister was brought to their house around 4:00 a.m. as investigators worked the crime scene.

They said she then told them that she had gotten to her dad's house just after the ambulance left. The emergency crew had initially been called to the home for chest pain. When they got there they saw Mr. White had been shot. Law enforcement were later called to the scene.

The neighbors said, the daughter didn't know what was going on. She thought her dad was in the house in his room. And her brother hadn't said anything.

"She got him to get the grill out of the back of the car and he made a comment of I don't know why we're getting it out we won't be needing it," Mr. Morman.

Neighbors said, White's daughter had come over to get ready for Father's Day. The suspect is being held on a $500,000 bond.
