San Antonio police shoot, kill man carrying shotgun

SAN ANTONIO - Three San Antonio police officers shot and killed a man who they say threatened them with a shotgun early Monday morning.

Officers responded to a disturbance call around 3:30 a.m. at a duplex in the 4200 block of Gawain on the Northeast Side.

A man initially called police to report that someone at his apartment was armed and that he was unable to leave, police said.

According to a police report, officers arrived at the scene and said they heard two men arguing inside the duplex, then heard one tell the other to "put the gun down."

Officers then ordered the man to come out, and he went outside with a shotgun in his hand.

"We're not sure at this point if the suspect did fire on the officers or if he ... threatened them with the shotgun. The shotgun was directed at the officers. The officers fired several times," said San Antonio police Sgt. Javier Salazar.

The suspect was hit in the upper and lower torso, and pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

The man who initially called to report the disturbance was also injured, police said.

He was hit in the foot by a pellet from the shotgun when the suspect opened fire inside the duplex, police said.

None of the police officers were injured. Police officials said two of the officers have been on the force for five years and the other for seven years.

The officers are expected to be placed on administrative duty while SAPD officials investigate the shooting
