All week: U.S. Equestrian Drill Championship near Lindale

Posted: Updated:

The best horse riders in the nation are in East Texas this week for the United States Equestrian Drill Championship.

The competition is being held at the Texas Rose Horse Park on Highway 110 near Lindale.

Riders from every age level are putting on carefully choreographed routines in teams of 4 to 16. Most of them practice for hours every day, until their horses are more like an extension of themselves.

"It's an adrenaline rush. It's like riding a roller coaster," competitor Tiffany Sanders from Canton said. "You go out there and you're like well, I want to do good, but you focus on the drill, smile and try to look at everybody at the same time."

The drill championship lasts through Saturday.

Daily parking and tickets are $5 each. Children under six get in free.
