Child Overcomes Physical Barriers

HENDERSON (KYTX) - "Cason Weatherton was born without a left leg, without a palm, and with a clubbed foot. Some may consider these set backs but for Cason, he is just another child. He even challenged me... to a one on one game of basketball"

Like many children, Cason Weatherton love sports, especially soccer.
"I get to kick a lot, I really like doing that"
But Cason was born with Amniotic Band Syndrome, a condition that causes abnormal growth in a fetus. His mother Shalondra Weatherton says it didn't take Cason long to overcome his challenges.
"Since being born he has just had the mentality of I can do it."
And he says he feels just like other kids.
"Some people will come up and say oh I am so sorry, but he doesn't like pity parties. He doesn't see himself as different."
Cason swims, and plays soccer, baseball, you name it, even basketball.
"So what's going to happen when we play basketball"
"I'm probably going to beat you."
The second grader didn't let my 6 foot frame slow him down either.
His mother says Cason has came a long way. Surgery has given him a palm, and  he has mastered mobility. Shalondra says Cason has taught her so much..
"I once thought I needed certain things to accomplish things, he has taught me that if you just take what you have, you can go further than you ever thought."

"Gillian, I have never claimed to be Lebron James and I can admit it,  Cason did beat me 4 to 1 in our our pick up game of basketball."
