UPDATE:
GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - One man is dead after drowning in Prairie Creek in Gregg County. Emergency crews found his body at the bottom of the creek Saturday night.

The victim had been fishing with his son.

"I've seen a lot of people fishing in there," said Roger Jolicoeur who has lived near the creek for over 30 years.

"They have their chairs up on the banks."

Jolicoeur didn't see or hear anything as crews searched the banks of the creek Saturday night.

Crews from all over Gregg county searched the perimeter of the creek. Sabine Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief Richard Sisk was on scene the whole time crews searched for the man.

"Unable to locate him on a 360 search or the creek bed and stuff,we had an idea that it was possibly be a recovery versus a rescue," said Sisk.

The Sabine Fire Department said it's not enough to warn your children about the dangers of not having water safety. It's something adults may want to keep in mind for themselves.

"Know what you're body is capable of ...just have situational awareness of what you're abilities are as an adult for sure," said Sisk.

People that live around the creek said they would never imagine an adult could drown in the water.

"I say the creek at the most ain't nothing but four feet deep," said Jolicoeur

Sisk said, in parts the creek is a lot deeper than four feet.

He said the victim was found in water between eight to ten feet deep.

Investigators have not released the victim's name. Fire officials said both the man and his son were in the water together at one point. It's not clear if they were swimming, recovering a fishing line or something else.
