Budget Update

Tyler ISD Chief Financial Officer Tosha Bjork provided a budget update. Ms. Bjork explained that with the passage of Senate Bill 1, the District will receive an additional $7.5 million in revenue for the 2013-14 budget year. The first priority for the proposed use of funds is a salary increase for all staff. Of the total increase in funding, 84% is being proposed for raises and employee benefits. The raise projections are as follows:

Teachers:

$2,000 for experience between 1-7 years

$2,200 for experience between 8-14 years

$2,400 for experience after 15 years

TISD is also raising beginning teacher pay to $41,000

Paraprofessional and Manual Trades:

5% of the midpoint for each pay grade

The District is also raising the minimum wage to $9.00 for these employee groups

Professional Positions other than those on the teacher scale will be 4% of the midpoint for each pay grade.

Due to the Affordable Health Care Act, the District is also increasing the health insurance contribution by approximately $1.8 million.
