Kids study Rocket Science at TJC Summer Kids Camp

TYLER (KYTX) - If you ask a group of kids in the Tyler Junior College Summer Kids Camp, they'll say, it's all like learning Rocket Science. Well at least for one day.

The kids enrolled in the week long camp got to let off rockets and hammer and chisel away at red sand rocks to look for Mars rocks. Camp organizers say, this is a way to keep the kids' minds and bodies busy through the summer.

"So we are trying to make sure that they learn a few news skills as they move forward, but also that they get outside and do some things
kinesthetically," said summer camp director Paige Parrish.

The camps are held for one week each. Upcoming camps will focus on paleontology and CSI. All of the programs are focused around STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

Organizers said, the camps are also a way to get young girls more interested in Science in the hopes that they'll consider getting into sciences as possible career choices.
