Temperatures could reach 100 degrees over next couple days

Posted: Updated:
EAST TEXAS (KYTX) - The high pressure area aloft will strengthen across the western U.S. over the next few days. It is possible we could see 100 degrees as early as Thursday afternoon in East Texas, and we will get close if we don't reach it again Friday.

The weekend forecast still sees a cold front drift across the Red River into East Texas and bring with it a slight chance of showers and a few thunderstorms Saturday and Sunday. This will also break the run of hot temperatures we've seen this week and produce high temperatures in the low 90s early next week.

The outlook for the Independence Day holiday still calls for cooler weather with a chance of showers and thunderstorms from the middle through the end of next week. Winds will be south to southwest 5 to 15 mph through Saturday, then switch from the northeast Sunday.
