HOOD COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) – The Hood County Sheriff's Department has confirmed to CBS 11 News that a Granbury police officer and another member of law enforcement have both been shot and injured.

A CareFlite air ambulance was called and transported the Granbury officer to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth.

There is more than one police crime scene, but officials say both have been secured.

The square around the Granbury Courthouse is on lockdown.

A damaged white-colored van, believed to involved in the gunfire exchange, near the town square is being looked over by authorities. A semi-automatic rifle is near the van. (see picture above)

Hood County resident Mike Black told KRLD NewsRadio 1080 that he heard dozens of dozens fired. "You could tell that it was a weapon and there was… there ain't no way you could count that many shells being shot," he said.

Tina Brown owns a shop on the downtown square and said she heard gunfire that sounded like firecrackers. Brown said when she looked outside she saw a deputy with a rifle, who exchanged gunshots with another individual. After she'd taken cover and heard no more gunshots, Brown said she looked out and saw someone lying injured on the ground.

The city of Granbury is about 25 miles southwest of Fort Worth.

The Texas Rangers have been called to assist with the shooting investigation.

CBS 11 News has news crews on the ground and in the air and will have more information as it becomes available.
