Community water balloon fight benefits PATH charity

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) -To beat the summer heat and help a local charity, east Texas adults and kids set up for one of the biggest water battles of the summer: red team versus blue team.

It started with a splash. The first Aquapalooza water balloon fight flew into action at the Bergfeld Park Sunday.

"You get a couple bruises but it's fun," said 9-year-old Miranda Baker.

For a $3 entry fee for adults and $1 for kids, participants got to pitch as many water balloons they could carry.

"People kept throwing balloons at me and I was just so scare oh no I'm gonna let my team down, but I didn't. I did the plan and I got a flag," said little Nayla Green.

The goal was to capture a flag,  but the event was much more than that. All the money will go directly toward PATH (People Attempting to Help).

The organization helps people get back on their feet following hard times. But that wasn't the original purpose of the balloon fight.

"We just sorta came across an excess of water balloons and it was just gonna be myself and a few friends and it grew from there," said one of the event organizers Lauren Cassity.

"I'm glad that we have a lot of support for path and its gotten much bigger than we ever expected," she said.

Thanks to the flurry of flying balloons, and fire from water guns, participants have done more than attempt to help. They will help.

More than 100 adults and children participated in the event. Due to the large turnout, organizers plan to hold a bigger and more wet event next year.
