UPDATE: Man shot to death identified, suspect hospitalized

Tyler Police Department:

UPDATE: TYLER (KYTX) - Tyler Investigators have identified the deceased victim as 52-year-old Rodney Earl Walker, of Tyler.  Walker's body will be sent to Southwest Institute of Forensics in Dallas for an autopsy. 

The suspect, 39, of Tyler, is currently in a local hospital in critical condition for an apparent attempted suicide. Police confirm this was an attempted overdose. His identity is being withheld at this time. His identity is being withheld at this time. 

Investigators have determined that the two subjects have known each other for some time.

This case remains under investigation.

TYLER (KYTX) - On July 1, 2013 at approximately 3:05a.m., police responded to a welfare check at 311 E. First St, Tyler, Smith County, Texas.

 Upon officer's arrival, a male subject was found inside the residence deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. The suspect is known, but no names are being released at this time.

This incident is still under investigation.

The suspect is known, but no names are being released at this time. This incident is still under investigation.
