Local bakery wins Food Network's Cupcake Wars

Mineola (KYTX) -  Small treats from a Mineola bakery are getting big recognition. Owners of the Luscious Crumb are now proud winners of the Food Network's 'Cupcake Wars' show.

Friends and family celebrated at the Lake Country Playhouse Select Theatre on Sunday night, when the episode aired.

"When they announced us as the winner, the whole theater cheered and it was just very exciting. I was a little emotional," Dawn Trammell, owner of the Luscious Crumb, said.

Trammell says getting on the show in October took 2 years.

"I decided to specialize in cupcakes because of 'Cupcake Wars'," Trammell said.

As a team, she and her daughter Rachel ended up winning the $10,000 grand prize and catering for 80s pop icon Taylor Daynes.

"I think this is the biggest thing that could have happened to us," Rachel Pantusa, assistant baker on the show and Trammell's daughter, said.

Business for the 2-and-a-half year old company is booming, with news spreading. Trammell says her employees are getting a raise with her prize money, and she does want to expand the business.

"That's the cupcake wars mantra: go big or go home, so we're going to go big," Trammell said.
