Web Exclusive: Apple applies for iWatch trademark

Posted: Updated:

(CBS/CNN) - Rumors that Apple may be developing a smart watch could be true.  The tech giant applied to trademark the 'iWatch' in Japan.  If Apple develops the wearable device, it will reportedly run on the same operating system used by the iPhone and iPad.  The company has not confirmed reports of a smart wristwatch, but it hasn't denied them either.

Tribune media company is moving from newspapers and more into TV.  It plans to buy 19 stations for $2.7 billion dollars.  The company already owns 23 stations.  'Tribune' came out of bankruptcy six months ago and is looking to sell it's newspapers, including the Chicago Tribune.

New safety procedures are being recommended at airports after a number of recent mid-air close calls between commercial airliners.  The National Transportation Safety Board just finished five investigations involving jetliners that narrowly avoided mid-air collisions near major U.S. airports.   The safety hazard identified in the five incidents all occurred when an airplane that was on approach to an airport aborted the landing attempt.  The NTSB is recommending the FAA modify air traffic control procedures to avoid putting planes performing a go-around on potential collision courses with other planes.
