Early morning fire damages North Tyler home

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) - Firefighters are still trying to figure out what started an early morning house fire in Tyler.

The fire broke out around 2 a.m. in the 1000 block of West 34th street.

Firefighters tell us the home was fully engulfed when they got there. One person was home at the time.

She says when she got up and saw smoke in the bedroom and found the next room on fire.

Barking dogs may have helped save her life.

"Heard dogs barking in backyard. Tried rolling over and going back to sleep and noticed lights flickering on and off and air conditioning unit acting like it was turning on and off," said Tony Gumber, Fire Investigator.

The homeowner made it out safely. She's the one who called 9-1-1.
