Web Exclusive: Statue of Liberty back open for visitors

Posted: Updated:

(CNN) - Just in time for the Fourth of July, Lady Liberty is set to reopen to visitors.  The Statue of Liberty has been closed since Superstorm Sandy damaged the visitors center and other parts of the park that surround the statue.  The 305-foot-tall crown is even back in business. Statue cruises say access to the crown is already sold out for Independence Day.

A woman had to be rescued from a sinkhole after the ground opened up and swallowed her car.  It happened at this busy intersection in Toledo, Ohio.  A water main break is being blamed for the 20-foot deep sinkhole.  The driver was taken to the hospital.

Is Alec Baldwin considering a career change? With a new baby on the way, the actor is threatening to quit.  He's also taking a hiatus, possibly a permanent one, from social media after he unleashed a flurry of angry tweets towards a journalist.  Some said Baldwin's comments were homophobic.  Now Baldwin tells "Gothamist," a New York pop culture and news blog, that he looks toward the future with his new wife and their expected baby and dreams of a day when his new daughter won't know him as a public figure.

A mother and business owner is leading a petition to make a popular children's toy more inclusive for young girls.   Melissa Atkins Wardy is the owner of Pigtail Pals and Ball Cap Buddies, a children's clothing and gift shop.  When she discovered that Lego had a competition for product ideas, she entered her proposal for a female minifigure set.  The set would include 13 ideas for women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  The project reached 10,000 votes on June 13 -- allowing it to move to the review phase.  This means that a Lego review board will examine the idea.
