Neighborhood parade celebration 14 years strong

Posted: Updated:

Tyler, TX (KYTX) -- Many families celebrate the 4th of July, and one tradition has been bringing families in a neighborhood together 14 years now.

It's part of your 4th of July checklist: a parade with floats and fire trucks, patriotic music, hot dogs, and even a dunking booth.

"I've already done the dunking booth and slide, but I hope to get some food and hang out with my friends," Scott Skrocki, a 12-year-old, said.

Nestled in a Tyler neighborhood, the celebration on Heines Drive is made possible by the people who live here.

"My children tease me that I like 4th of July as much as Christmas and I really do, but I like that it brings out the old and the young," Bari Walker, who organizes the neighborhood celebration, said.

Walker says she wanted something for families to do every 4th of July.

"We moved from Dallas and attended a parade there, so when we came to Tyler there wasn't a lot for us to do,"Walker said.

That's not the case anymore.

"It's fun and fellowship, and also a great time to come out here and remember about our country and that people died for our freedoms," Marc Watson, a husband and father at the celebration, said.
