LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - A Longview man is in jail tonight, charged with attacking his 89-year-old mother over the weekend.

According to documents from Gregg County's Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace, Longview police responded to a family violence call at 6:01 p.m. Saturday to an apartment in the 3600 block of McCann Road. The victim said her son, 72-year-old Eugene Edward Parsons, pressed a red walking stick on her chest and threatened to "split her head open" if she did not give him the keys to her car. "While still holding the stick on her chest, Eugene, with a closed fist, struck his mother on the left side of her face, knocking her glasses off," officers said in an arrest report.

Parsons is also accused of disabling the house phones and taking his mother's cell phone and purse. He remains in the Gregg County Jail tonight on $6,000 bond, charged with injury to an elderly person and interfering with an emergency call.
