Posted: Updated:

VAN ZANDT COUNTY (KYTX) - Criminal District Attorney Chris Martin and Van Zandt County Sheriff Michael Lindsey Ray report that the 116 sex offenders in the county were checked to verify registration compliance on July 10 in Van Zandt County.

The check was conducted by approximately fifty officers representing the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office, the Van Zandt County Criminal District Attorney's Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety – Texas Highway Patrol and Criminal Investigations Division, the United States Marshal's Service, Van Zandt County Constables Offices, and the Van City Marshal's Office.

"On behalf of the law abiding citizens of Van Zandt County, I would like to say thank you each for helping the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office in keeping our community safer by ensuring the convicted sex offenders who are registered in Van Zandt County are in compliance with state law regarding their reporting requirements," says Sheriff Ray.

Eighty-nine of the 116 were found to be in compliance with state reporting requirements. Of those 89, Larry Michael Maples, the capitol murder suspect that was released June 28, was found to be in compliance with his court ordered release.

Officials also discovered that 16 sex offenders had moved out of Van Zandt County without properly notifying authorities.

The Texas Department of Public Safety's Criminal Investigation Division has already received information regarding the 16 individuals.
