Train hits car after driver attempts to beat it across tracks in Grand Saline

GRAND SALINE (KYTX) - A train and SUV collided Tuesday morning in Grand Saline.

The accident happened around 11:41 a.m. when the driver of a Ford Explorer attempted to beat the oncoming freight train on the west side of town on Houston Street about two blocks south of U.S. Highway 80. Corey Hukill, 24-year-old from Fruitvale, and his female passenger were side swiped.

The train was hauling crude oil. No injuries were reported.

Grand Saline PD, Fire, Champion EMS, Van Zandt Pct. 1 Constable responded to the scene.

Hukill is expected to be ticketed for disregard of a railroad crossing.

The traffic crossings in town were closed and traffic tie ups were the major problem.

The city official said motorists looking to cross the train tracks can do so on the

Railroad inspectors reported to the scene to complete the investigation on site and determine how the accident occurred.
