HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Activists are holding a protest in downtown Houston in response to the George Zimmerman acquittal. The protest began at noon outside the courthouse, and has moved through the streets to City Hall and other venues.

The demonstration was organized in response to the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the death of Trayvon Martin in Florida. The protesters are speaking out against what they say is injustice and racism in the US justice system.

People initially gathered outside the Harris County Criminal Courthouse in the 1200 block of Franklin. An increased police presence is on hand around the area.

Some delays are expected for those needing access to the courthouse building.
