LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - Longview High School technology and engineering students this summer earned 11 top ten national Technology Students Association awards, including three national championships.

One of the first place finishes, the technology bowl team completed a hat trick for recently-graduated seniors Andrew O'Connor, Judson Daniels and Chris Yu. They entered the 2013 competition in Orlando, FL as the two-time defending national champions.

The other two golds came by way of the manufacturing prototype and open source software development teams. The open source software development was a new event at the national level.
The manufacturing prototype team, which also won the state championship during the spring, consisted only of sophomores-to-be  – twins Alyson and Robyn Roper, Trevor O'Connor, Allie Biggs, Krisana Yuen and Soumya Donty.

"After finalists were called, they announced the top three, and the six of us grew more nervous as third and second were announced," freshman Alyson Roper said. "When they announced us as first we couldn't believe it."

Open source software development team members will also have a shot at a repeat in 2014, with Eric Ramos and Jose A. Rodriguez – two incoming seniors – and 2013-14 sophomores Stephen Jayakar and Robyn Roper.

"This year I took from the conference a feeling of satisfaction that I had dedicated four amazing years to the organization, graduating with five national championships and being a national finalist twelve times," Daniels said. "Although, the best thing I took home from Orlando was not a trophy; it was confidence that my underclassmen will continue a tradition of excellence for Longview High School's TSA chapter."

The Lobo Technology Student Association earlier this year was named Class 5A State Champions in qualifying to advance to the national competition. Technology teacher Charles Moseley is the TSA advisor for the Longview High School chapter.
