Texas Medical Board suspends Tyler doctor for alcohol, prescription drug use

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) - On Friday, July 12, the Disciplinary Panel of the Texas Medical Board entered an order of temporary suspension for a Tyler doctor.

According to documents released by the TMB, Dr. William Edward Brown license was temporarily suspended after he failed to maintain an agreement with Texas Physician Health Program where he was referred for his history of alcohol and prescription drug abuse.

Dr. Brown entered into a five year Monitoring and Assistance Agreement with TXPHP, which was to run from April 17,2013 through April 16, 2018.

The agreement included a number of conditions, among the following: abstention from all mood-altering, illicit, and or recreational substances, including alcohol; participation in the TXPHP random drug screening program; and an understanding that TXPHP would report any relapse or substantive violation of the Agreement to the Board.

Based upon Dr. Brown's continuing alcohol and prescription abuse, as evidenced by recent positive drug screening results, along with his failure to adhere to the terms of the Agreement, The Disciplinary Panel found him to be a continuing threat to the public health, safety, or welfare that required immediate effect of the Order of Temporary Suspension.
