Families may receive assistance with energy bills

Posted: Updated:

FROM TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH:

East Texas families may qualify for federal assistance with energy bills, according to a press release from Greater East Texas Community Action Program (GETCAP).

"We see really high cooling bills often in July through September," said Smith County case manager Tina Anderson in the written release. "Many families are struggling to make ends meet."

Funding is administered through the program, which determines a family's eligibility based on household income and circumstances.

"We have experienced a lot of federal funding cuts, but fortunately the 2013 energy assistance funding is still available," said Karen Swenson, executive director of GETCAP, in the written release. "Funding for 2014 will likely be significantly less. We want to help as many families as we can who qualify this year."

Low-income seniors, disabled, and families with young children will likely be eligible. Call 903-592-3828 for more information.
