Police say Longview teen stole firearms in vehicle burglaries

Posted: Updated:

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - A 17-year-old Longview man is back in the Gregg County Jail a second time since February, now charged with two counts of theft of a firearm and evading arrest.

Police arrested Braydon Alan Peeler, who was hiding underneath a vehicle in the 400 block of Edwards Street shortly before 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to court documents.

Officers were responding to the area, after someone called police to report that two young men were taking items from a Chevy SUV before fleeing the scene north on Edwards Street, according to court documents. Officers found the men in an open field near Edwards Street and demanded that they stop, but they turned around and ran in the opposite direction.

Police say Peeler and other people stole three separate firearms from two separate vehicles, including a shotgun taken from a vehicle at Hunter's Crossing Apartments on Bill Owens Parkway. A witness at Hunter's Crossing identified Peeler at the scene, according to court documents. Also taken were two revolvers from the SUV on Edwards Street.

Peeler remains in jail today on $10,000 bond.

In February, Peeler and his father, Christopher Alan Peeler, were arrested on aggravated assault charges following at fight at the father's home that involved knives and chairs. According to the Gregg County judicial website, neither man has been indicted in that incident.

Court documents did not say whether other people were arrested in Tuesday's vehicle burglaries. CBS 19 has contacted Longview Police Department, and we will update you when that information is available.
