East Texas author to hold book signing in Tyler

Posted: Updated:

CHEROKEE COUNTY (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - A Cherokee County author will be at a Tyler bookstore today signing copies of her work, which is based on East Texas history.

Ann Chandler, of Jacksonville, will be signing copies of "Hannah's Story" from 2 to 5 p.m. at Barnes and Noble, 4916 S. Broadway Ave.

The story revolves around Hannah, a preteen girl who survives the Killough Massacre in 1839 with the help of friendly Cherokee Indians.

The tale is broken into three parts. The first is about the massacre itself.

In part two, she accompanies her "new" family to the Indian Territory when the Indians are expelled from Texas, according to the release.

Part three sees Hannah return to her roots in Alabama to find the Killough family no longer lives there and return to Texas, where despite all the loss she has suffered, Hannah finds inner peace.

Ms. Chandler lives near the site of the massacre and has served as the chairwoman of the Cherokee County Historical Commission, a member of the Jacksonville Vanishing Texana Museum board and a member of the Jacksonville City Council, according to the release.

"Hannah's Story" is her first novel after a career of teaching history, English, and creative writing at the high-school level.

The book is available online at amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com. Its price is $12.99.
