War Vet Travels to Korea to Recover Fellow Soldier's Remains

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- An American Korean War veteran returned to North Korea today on a quest to find the remains of a dead comrade and bring them home.

Eighty-eight-year-old Thomas Hudner was a U.S. Navy pilot in 1950.

During a battle his fellow pilot Jesse Brown was hit and crashed.

Hudner crash landed his own plane to try to save his friend, but couldn't get him out of the wreckage.

Hudner was pulled from hostile territory by helicopter and had to leave Brown behind.

Hudner hopes the wreckage will be found.

"Feels good, I think things are going very positive, and to find an aircraft that I left out here 63 years ago is quite a thrill," said Hudner.

Hudner received the Medal of Honor for crashing his plane in an attempt to save Brown.

Brown was awarded the distinguished Flying Cross.
