East Texas firefighter taken to hospital after mobile home fire

Posted: Updated:

HENDERSON COUNTY (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) -- One Henderson County firefighter was taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion while fighting a mobile home fire in Malakoff on Wednesday.

Henderson County Sheriff Ray Nutt said the fire at 9851 Texas 31 West was called in at 2:08 p.m. The first truck arrived on scene at 2:21 p.m., he said.

Shane Renberg, Henderson County Fire Marshal, said one firefighter was transported to East Texas Medical Center by ambulance. Two others were evaluated onsite by EMS because they were coughing, but were not taken to the hospital, he said. The injured firefighter is expected to make a full recovery.

Renberg said flames heavily damaged the mobile home in the Crescent Heights Mobile Home Park, but no one was injured. He declined to comment on the location of the center of the fire or if foul play was suspected, but said the investigation is ongoing.

The Red Cross was called to help the family and they did have a place to stay for the night. Renberg did not comment on if the home was insured.

Malakoff, Trinidad, Southside volunteer fire departments and North 19 Fire and Rescue responded to the scene, Nutt said.
