Tyler man killed in plane crash

Posted: Updated:

AMARILLO (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) -- A Tyler man was killed this morning when his plane crashed in an Amarillo neighborhood.

Melanie Hooley McDade told the Tyler Morning Telegraph her uncle 53-year-old Ben Harned IV died in the plane crash.

"The family is just in shock right now," she said crying.

Mrs. McDade said her uncle, who was more like her brother, moved back to Tyler several years ago and got married last autumn.

"He had a business in Amarillo and went back and forth, but I don't know how often he made the trip," she said.

Mrs. McDade said Harned's grandmother once ran the Tyler Woman's Building and many people in Tyler knew him from working in the building with his grandmother.

Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.
