Odierno Military Strategy

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- The Army's Chief of Staff talks about how deep budget cuts and obesity are affecting the U.S. Army.

The U.S. Army is in the process of making significant cuts to its fighting forces.

That as it withdraws from the war in Afghanistan and works on tighter defense budgets.

General Ray Odierno is leading the Army through some of its largest organizational changes since World War II.

On Monday, he said more budget cuts are likely, and he worries about the ability to train future soldiers.

GEN Ray Odierno said, "People often ask me, what keeps me up at night. What keeps me up at night is if I'm asked to deploy 20,000 soldiers somewhere, I'm not sure I can guarantee they're trained to a level I think they should be over the next two or three years because of the way sequestration is being enacted."

Odierno says people are still interested in joining the Army, but that the Army is having to turn potential recruits away because of their physical health.
