Target funds back-to-school shopping spree for 14 East Texas students

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) - Target and that East Texas Salvation Army teamed up Tuesday to take 14 students on a school supply shopping spree.

The school year is less than a month away and school supply drives have been popping up all over East Texas.

Since 2009, every year, Target has donated 1 million dollars to be handed out to Salvation Army's all across the country to help students get what they need for school.

Most of the students helped in these programs are in someway connected with the Salvation Army whether it be through the housing services or other special programs that are offered.

Whatever the connection, Salvation Army reps say, this spree gives parents one less thing to worry about.

"one last thing that you don't have to worry about is having school supplies for their kids."

Students are each given an $81 gift card to buy supplies and also clothes and shoes.
