2 drown in Shelby County

UPDATE: Monday, August 5, 2013 (KYTX) - A Shelby County man and young boy drowned Sunday afternoon in a pond on private property. Shelby County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call at approximately 1:50 p.m. Sunday.

Gina Porterfield said that a 7-year-old child identified as Carter Amburn had ridden an ATV off into a pond in front of their home on Hwy 96S off CR 1005. Shelby County Sheriff's Office deputies and City of Center Police officers responded to the home where they immediately went into the water.

It was determined that Amburn had ridden the ATV into the water and Danny Porterfield went in the water to search for him. Upon arrival of responders, Danny Porterfield was also missing.

Deputy Bobby Carlson located Amburn not far from the bank. CPR was started immediately and continued until Ace EMS arrived and transported him to San Augustine Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Shelby County Sheriff's department, Center Police Department, Texas Highway Patrol, Center Volunteer Fire Department, Texas Game Wardens, the Desoto Parish Dive Team and a number of concerned neighbors and citizens helped continue the search for Porterfield. His body was recovered at 4:52 p.m. by the dive team from Desoto Parish.

Shelby County Sheriff, Willis Blackwell would like to thank all the agencies who responded so quickly and worked together in this tragic event.

 


SHELBY COUNTY (KYTX) - The Shelby County Sheriff's Office is investigating two drownings.

 

The Sheriff's Office says two people died after going under water this afternoon on private property just off of Highway 96 South in Shelby County.

Investigators are not releasing any more information at this time.
