ANGELINA CO. (KYTX) -  Angelina County Sheriff Greg Sanches tells CBS 19 Kevin McKelvey called the Angelina County Sheriff's office to turn himself in Monday night.

Around 8 pm, he arrived at the Sheriff's office with his family at his side and was taken into custody.

McKelvey says after talking with his parents he decided to turn himself in and put the manhunt to an end.

The  search was underway for the Lufkin man accused in an Angelina County double murder.

It happened just before midnight at 147 Charlton. Angelina County Sheriff Greg Sanches says 39- year old Kevin Jabbar McKelvey was waiting at the home of his ex-girlfriend when Cashuanika Hoyle and her mother Teresa Hoyle arrived.

The daughter walked in the home and that's when investigators say she was shot and killed by McKelvey.  Sheriff Sanches says Teresa Hoyle ran back to the car to protect 2 other children in the car and jumped in with the man who was driving.

Investigators say she was not able to escape before McKelvey shot through the passenger window, killing Hoyle. The driver of the car took Hoyle to the hospital about 11:57 p.m. where she was pronounced dead.

Family members say Teresa recently broke off a 5 year relationship with McKelvey, and feared he could become violent.

"She was just, I think afraid. Stuff had just started going wrong and she was just trying to protect her and her baby girls," said Teresa's cousin Linda Harper.

"Teresa was a loving, kind, beautiful woman. She loved her kids, she loved baking cakes, she loved the radio station she co hosted on the weekend," Harper says.

She says Teresa worked at 94.7 on the weekends.

"Cashuanika was beautiful. The biggest smile you've ever seen! She was always smiling. She worked at the local Chevron station here and all her customers adored her," Harper says.

Family members are banding together, hoping McKelvey is caught soon.

A search is still underway for McKelvey.  He is possibly driving a 1994 Chevrolet pick-up in a primer color. License plate #AD84840.

He is believed to have a 30-30 rifle. Call the Angelina County Sheriff's Office with any information at (936) 634-3332.
