Chemical spill reported at Smith County Energy Business

SMITH COUNTY (KYTX) - UPDATE: A hazardous materials leak is now cleaned up at a Smith County business.  The Tyler Fire Department helped contain a hydrochloric acid leak at Rockwater Energy Solutions at 12032 Highway 155 South.

Tyler Fire Department dispatched the Hazardous Materials Team at 6:55 a.m.  

Fire investigators say there was a leaking 55 gallon drum inside a building.  The HAAZMAT team stayed on scene to help workers ventilate the area. There were no injuries reported.  



Fire crews are on the scene of a chemical spill at Rockwater Energy Solutions on Highway 155 near Owentown.  The Smith County Fire Marshals office is on the scene with crews from Winona, Red Springs and Tyler HAZMAT.

The Fire Marshals office says the call came in about 6:20 am this morning. There were reports of smoke filling the business, but no flames.

The Tyler Fire Chief says a 55 gallon barrel of chemical spilled at the business. They did not release what type of chemical it was that spilled.

All of the employees evacuated the business.
