Health Alert: Stomach pain in children could lead to anxiety

(CBS) - Kids who suffer from abdominal pain are more likely to have anxiety and depression as adults.

New research in the journal of pediatrics tracked adults who had unexplained abdominal pain as children and found 51 percent had an anxiety disorder during their lifetime. 40 percent had depression at some point in their lives.

Chronic or recurrent abdominal pain can affect up to 20 percent of school age children and many patient have what is considered to be unexplained abdominal pain.

Researchers at Duke Medical Center say they hope the discoveries will lead to new strategies to identify new targets for therapy. More than two million people suffer from epilepsy in the U.S.

 


 


(CBS) - New research highlights the bond between grandparents and grandchildren.

A Boston College study finds a close relationship between grandparents and adult grandchildren was associated with fewer symptoms of depression for both generations.

Research found the greater the emotional support each group got from one another the better their psychological health.
