Business News: Coca-Cola Ad to defend artificial sweeteners

Posted: Updated:

(CBS) - In Business News, Coca-Cola is defending its diet soda.

The beverage giant will run its first newspaper ad today touting the safety of artificial sweeteners commonly known as "Nutrasweet".

Coca-cola is trying to stem the slide in sales of diet sodas, which are falling at a faster rate than regular sodas.

(CBS) - A new study finds the percentage of women in the U.S. workforce hasn't change in the past 25 years.

About 74 percent of women ages 25-54 currently participate in the U.S. labor force. That's little changed since 1990 and far behind many other developed countries.

Experts say a big part of the problem is the lack of family-friendly labor laws in the U.S.

(CNN) - Senator Al Franken is focused on passing a new farm bill.

Franken says it's necessary for the country to have a bill that includes both farming subsidies and funding for a nutritional program.

There's a house proposal that would cut up to $40 billion dollars from the Federal Food Assistance Program known as "SNAP".

Supporters of the legislation say the proposal would reduce government spending on those programs, which cost taxpayers about $80 million dollars per year.
