Coca-Cola rolls out new campaign about artificial sweeteners

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) - Coca-Cola is rolling out a new ad campaign today aimed at quieting concerns over artificial sweeteners in its drinks.

The ad is part of Coke's "Coming Together" campaign to fight obesity in America.

The health and safety of the sugar substitute is supported by more than 200 studies over the last 40 years.

"Broccoli is healthy, you know, beans are healthy. Nuts are healthy. I don't think you can use healthy and artificial sweeteners or sodas in the same sentence,"said nutritionist Samantha Heller.

The FDA has deemed Aspartame safe for human consumption.

It recommends ingesting no more than 50 milligrams of it per kilogram of body weight every day. That amounts to 22 cans of diet soda for a 175-pound man and 15 cans for a 120-pound woman.
