LUFKIN (KYTX) - When building a new interstate, determining where it is placed, can be the biggest decision. TxDOT along with officials from Angelina and Nacogdoches Counties met Monday to discuss where to put the new I-69 that is planned to be built in few years. Representatives chose to use the existing Highway 59 to be converted into the Interstate, rather than building an entire new road. TxDOT Commissioner Jeff Austin says the road will be put together in bits and pieces.

"It's not a road we can build all at once. It is one we have to take in stages. Where the community can reach a consensus and where we can identify funding"
Just for the Lufkin-Nacogdoches area, the estimated cost of the project is over 1 billion dollars. The interstate will run from Brownsville all the way to Texarkana.
