Kilgore Police stepping up presence at schools and school zones

Posted: Updated:

FROM: KILGORE POLICE DEPARTMENT:

KILGORE (KYTX) -  The Kilgore Police Department will be stepping up their presence at all Kilgore Independent School District campuses and school zones as the new school year officially begins next week.

The Police Department will have additional officers assigned to various school zones before and after school in addition to their school resource officers. Their objective will be to ensure everyone gets to and from school in safe manner.

While all drivers have a responsibility of adjusting their driving habits during school hours, parents of school children have a responsibility as well in keeping kids safe. Please pay attention to your speed and watch for children at cross walks. Also be mindful of school busses loading and off loading children. Give yourself plenty of extra time if you are taking children to school and buckle everyone up. Traffic is always congested at the beginning of a new school year, so please plan accordingly. Cell phone use in a school zone is unsafe and illegal. Be patient with other drivers. It is also very important to drop and pick up children within areas designated by the Kilgore Independent School District.

With two new campuses this year it is necessary to familiarize oneself with information about your child's campus prior to the first day of school. Please take the time to visit the KISD website for information on pick-up/drop off, maps, safety and procedures at your child's campus.
