Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) -- A man who managed to escape Tyler police officers while in handcuffs is back in custody.

Austin Shipp, 19, was first arrested Tuesday morning at the Walmart on South Broadway for shoplifting. He managed to slip away from police while still in handcuffs.

Police arrested him near the intersection of Reick and Hollytree around 5 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Officers say he no longer had his handcuffs on.

Shipp has three misdemeanor charges pending.  He also wanted for deserting from the Marine Corps. The military will handle that charge.
