Update: Some family heirlooms salvaged in Chapel Hill fire

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE (KYTX) :: A Smith County man is sifting through rubble on Wednesday after a forest fire on his property threatens his family valuables.

The owner tells CBS19 he wants to remain anonymous, and kept things like his grandfather's World War I uniform, 1920's dress shirts, antique furniture, and newspaper clippings in a storage shed that caught fire Tuesday night around 7:50.

That owner tells us most of the prized possessions were salvaged, and suffered only smoke damage. He also blames the fire--that scorched 5 acres--on an outdoor burn not entirely put out a few days ago.

CHAPEL HILL (KYTX) - Chapel Hill Fire Department was first on the scene of a fire located off FM 2767 around 8 p.m.

Jackson Heights, Red Springs, and Winona were also called to the fire that burned through 5 acres of forest and a small shed.

No one was hurt in the fire and investigators still do not know how the fire started.

CBS19 will keep you updated as information becomes available.
