Longview man jailed after robbing pizza delivery driver for 'box of wings'

Posted: Updated:

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - Longview police say a 23-year-old man wanted to rob a pizza deliveryman for money but settled for a box of chicken wings.

Christopher Arnez Bryant, of Longview, is in the Gregg County Jail on $10,000 bond, charged with second degree robbery. He was arrested at 3:15 Wednesday afternoon by Longview police officer Douglas Brinkley during a traffic stop at the intersection of Dixon and Aurel streets.

In an arrest warrant filed in the Gregg County District Clerk's Office, police say a Domino's deliveryman reported being robbed Aug. 5 by a man holding what looked to be a semiautomatic handgun. The man demanded money, but the deliveryman "tried to divert the subject's attention by offering him a box of wings," according to the warrant. "When (Bryant) took the box of wings with one hand, (the deliveryman) put his truck in reverse and tried to get away from the subject," according to the warrant.

Investigators determined through interviews with witnesses in the neighborhood that the robber was Bryant. The deliveryman said he believed the handgun was fake, according to the warrant.
