Nacogdoches Co. encourages holiday fire safety

Posted: Updated:

(KYTX) - The County of Nacogdoches raises awareness on their Facebook page of fire dangers in the summer time.

As Labor Day approaches, many are making plans to celebrate the end of the summer. And even though summer is ending, the fire danger remains high.

Judge English would like to remind those in Nacogdoches County to exercise caution and stay safe this holiday weekend.

One of the largest fires in Nacogdoches County history was the Angelina River Bottom Fire that occurred Labor Day Weekend of 2011.

Wildfires can be started by human error as well as other factors like lightning strikes and downed power lines. We are reminding everyone to be aware of their surroundings and report all fires to 911.

Currently all outdoor burning is prohibited in the unincorporated areas of Nacogdoches County.

Since many of our residents enjoy their Labor Day Weekend with barbecue, please remember the following:

Be aware of your surroundings when grilling. Keep grills away from siding and eaves. Do not use a grill in a garage or carport.

Never leave a grill or pit unattended.

Keep water nearby in case of fire.

When transporting pits, always make sure the fire is extinguished.
