Dog Saves a Teen's Life during Wildfire

ORE CITY (KYTX) - 19-year old Jacob Fell and his dog Cooter have been best friends for the past  year.. Jacob lives in this home off of Stanley Road, south of Ore City.  Wednesday afternoon, a wildfire burned 3 acres around his home while he was taking a nap.
"My dog came in and started barking. I smelled something and ran outside and the whole yard was burning."
Cooter alerted him to the danger outside, but there was another challenge. Jacob's water well was being repaired, so he grabbed what he could to put out the flames.
"I just started grabbing water bottles and tea containers and started throwing it on my car, trying to put it out."
Ore City, and Diana Fire Crews responded 10 minutes after Jacob  woke up. He says he owes his life to Cooter and the firefighters.
"If you take a look over here, the flames were just feet from this propane tank, and the flames stopped just before my window, God was definitely looking out for me."
The Texas A and M Forest Service says wildfires burned 80 acres in East Texas Wednesday and Thursday.  Resource Specialist Mike Melton says the burn bans in place are no joke.
"Melton says that in counties with burn bans, there is 0 tolerance for burning, and if you are caught - you will be given a citation"
"Something like this can flame up very quickly. Everything is dry, and the fuels are volatile"
Jacob is just glad he and Cooter are ok.
"Yeah, this sucks. But  I still have my life."
