Jeff joined CBS19 in June of 2013. Since his broadcasting career began, he has wanted to cover high school football in Texas and is thrilled to have that opportunity.
Before arriving in East Texas, Jeff worked in Alpena, Michigan for two years as a sports reporter and anchor at WBKB-TV. While in Michigan, he helped create The 5th Down, a weekly high school football segment that won several awards from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters. Jeff moved to Alpena from Bristol, Connecticut, where he was a production assistant in ESPN's event production department. At ESPN he worked on productions of several events, including the Little League World Series, Winter X Games, and women's NCAA basketball tournament.
An Ohio native, Jeff confirmed he wanted to enter sports broadcasting while attending Ohio University. During college he worked for four years at WOUB, a PBS affiliate in Athens, Ohio, as a sports reporter, anchor and producer. He reported for Gridiron Glory, a local high school football highlight show that won a regional Emmy Award in 2006. During his time in Athens, Jeff also served as a radio broadcaster for Ohio Bobcats hockey and a coach for local youth hockey teams.
When he's not out covering local sports, Jeff enjoys playing music, running, and of course playing and watching sports. If you have a story idea, feel free to e-mail him at email@example.com or follow him on Twitter @jschafferCBS19.
