Palestine PD investigates reports of possible robbery from elderly homeowners

Posted: Updated:

(KYTX) - The Palestine Police Department is investigating the report of a possible scam in our area.

The police have received a report of two men going to the home of an elderly individual and asking to do work. They quoted a price of $40 and when the work was completed the men changed the price and demand additional money.

The offenders demand that the elderly victim write a check for the work and they quickly go to the bank and cash the check before anyone can put a stop on the check. The victim was forced to write a check for $400 in this incident.

The police would ask that if any one that you do not know just happens to show up asking to do work that you check them out.

Ask for references for past work and DO NOT make a decision on the spot. Also make sure that they show you proper identification such as a driver's license and some type of company insurance or bond information.

We also ask that if you think that you are being scammed please call the police at once.

The police will be obtaining information from the bank to try and help identify the men involved in this incident.

If the victim was threatened or felt that they would be harmed if they did not write the check for the amount demanded the offenders could be charged with Robbery which is a second degree Felony. If convicted of Robbery the suspects could be sentenced up to 20 years in prison.

Anyone with information concerning this or any other crime is asked to call the Palestine Police Department at 903-729-2254 or CRIME STOPPERS at 903-729-8477.
